At a recent congressional hearing, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee debated the Safe and Efficient Transportation Act, which would allow states to grant interstate access to six-axle trucks weighing up to 97,000 pounds.

The act is supported by the Coalition for Transportation Productivity, a group of 200 large shippers, but others – like the Oklahoma Department of Transportation – have urged caution in raising truck weight limits, mainly due to the additional stress on bridges.
