This summer, the Minnesota DOT will begin to look at the speed limits on the state’s roads and come to a decision on which ones they would like to bump up to 60 mph. Since 2011, raising speed limits on roadways has “become a national trend”’ said Director of Communications for the Governor’s Highway Safety Association, Kara Macek. “People just like to drive fast — sort of a bellwether indication of our frantic lifestyle and our need to get places quickly.”

The decision process won’t be finished until 2019, but it’s reported that speeds will increase as decisions are made.
